The Sonja Model is a fashion model from the early 1960s. The set includes all 13 sets from this beautiful girl. Sonja is a Brazilian fashion model who became one of the most successful models of her era, appearing on layouts in Vogue and being featured in major ad campaigns for prestigious companies such as Norelco, Max Factor, and Pond’s Cold Cream. Born Ernestina Anna Maria Kiesler to a German father and an Austrian mother on October 27th, 1939, Sonja was discovered while vacationing with her family on the French Riviera. She was only 15 years old at the time. Sonja was a student of Hans Axel who made a series of nude photographs of her, which were published by Bazaar for the first time in December 1957. She secured a contract with Ford Models following a photo shoot with photographer Peter Gowland and soon after, she moved to Paris to pursue a career as a model. In 1959, Sonja landed the cover of Vogue magazine and quickly gained popularity as one of the most glamorous models of her time, appearing on magazine covers for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan as well as for clients such as Charles Jourdan Shoes and Norelco Shaver. She was chosen by the New York Times as the Face of 1960, where she was described as “the world’s most wanted cover girl.” Sonja appeared on more covers of Vogue than any other model, including every Vogue cover for 1964. Her reception at the 1960 Academy Awards was described as “one of the weirdest moments in Oscars history.” Flocked by fans and reporters, she arrived on the red carpet in a see-through chiffon gown that left little to the imagination. A reporter for Life magazine wrote that the dress revealed more than it concealed, and according to Edward R. Murrow it revealed “more than some people might think she ought to have. ” Sonja Model suffered from depression and had frequent mood swings, which led to conflicts with her agents. She retired from the fashion industry in 1967 when she was 27 years old.  She married her third husband, Austrian Baron Hubert von Pantz, in 1975. Her marriage ended in divorce in 1980, after which she opened a boutique with friend Jutta Tiefenthaler in Snowmass Village in Colorado. Sonja resided in Colorado for the rest of her life and died on October 26, 2012 at age 73 after a long battle with cancer. Shortly after her death, photographs of her modeling career began to surface on the internet.
